About the film
Allowed to Birth is a feature documentary following global midwife Kristine Lauria, exploring how birth has become increasingly medicalised around the world - and what it would take to make childbirth safer, more dignified, and more empowering for everyone.
Filmed across multiple countries, the documentary weaves personal stories with expert voices from the birth world, examining both the value and the risks of modern obstetric intervention.
Directed by Jacinta Lagos.
Why we're screening it
As independent midwives working across Kent, we see first-hand the effects of the medicalisation of childbirth AND the importance of obstetric intervention when truly necessary.
Allowed to Birth is an independent film and we're bringing it to our community because we believe in birth, we believe that the tide can be turned against the over medicalisation of birth and we believe that all women and birthing people need to be treated with respect and dignity - however and wherever they give birth.
Join us for the screening and stay for a while afterwards to chat with other folk who really care about birth.
