Ask a Midwife: Reliable Midwifery Advice in Your Pocket

May 28, 2025

Ask a Midwife is live! Our new midwifery advice service has launched and enables you to have direct access to qualified midwives via WhatsApp.

What is it?

We created Ask a Midwife because over the years we have found that friends and family who are pregnant ask us lots of questions (which we have always welcomed!) about different aspects of their care. With NHS midwife appointments only being about 20 minutes long, there often isn’t enough time for any questions or enough time for women to be given balanced information about recommended tests or interventions. We know that it isn’t just our friends and family who have questions or are seeking reassurance and clarity, but pregnant women and birthing people all over the UK need this support too.

The internet is an amazing resource, but there is so much information out there and it is easy to get overwhelmed, particularly during pregnancy and after birth. We’ve all been down a Google rabbit hole at some point, struggling to find the answer to a question, finding polarised opinions or seeing an alarming statistic. Ask a Midwife exists to help you get out of these rabbit holes, provide balanced information and give you a greater understanding of both what’s happening in your body during pregnancy and how to navigate the maternity system.

Who is it for?

Ask a Midwife is for you if you’re pregnant or have just given birth. It’s not for during labour and birth. Anyone can sign up, it might be your first or it might be your third baby. You’re all welcome.

Can I ask anything?

Ask a Midwife is here for all your non-urgent queries. Maybe you’ve been booked for a test but you’d like to know more about your options? Maybe you’re struggling with some pregnancy symptoms and would like some advice? Maybe you are unsure about where to give birth and would like some balanced information to help you make a decision? Maybe you want the reassurance of having a midwife ‘in your pocket’ for all the questions you’ll have in the early weeks after your baby is born? We welcome all your questions.

No question is ever too small, and no question is ever silly.

How does it work?

Choose to subscribe to a week or a month of WhatsApp support and can easily add more time if you wish. We set up a WhatsApp Group and you can reach out whenever you have a question and ask as many questions as you like during your subscription period. The service is available 7 days a week between the hours of 8am - 8pm and you can expect to receive timely responses. We’ll send links to resources that are appropriate for you and may occasionally send voice messages if necessary.

The best thing? You can be anywhere in the UK to sign up to Ask a Midwife and get the benefit of our knowledge and years of clinical experience, right in your pocket.

How do I sign up?
